Ecobuild and Futurebuild 2009

They say that Ecobuild is the world’s biggest event dedicated to sustainable design, construction and the built environment.

This was certainly a hugely popular event with over 30,000 people attending over the three days at Earls Court. Of particular note was a conference debate on finding solutions to eco-refurbish the massive numbers of existing homes in the UK. In conversation with the audience, Kevin McCloud, Ashley Seager and Paul King addressed the challenge of inspiring people to green their existing homes.

The event was also an excellent opportunity to see showcases of the latest eco-technologies (both appropriate and less-appropriate ones!). We particularly enjoyed seeing examples of green roof and living wall systems and having a preview of the new RuralZed from Bill Dunster’s Zedfactory before meeting up with colleagues from thePrinces Foundation for the Built Environment and the Centre for Alternative Technology.
